Mr. Kevin A. Hayward has 39 years of teaching experience working with students to improve the quality of their musical performances He recently retired after 31 years teaching in the Phoenix Union High School District at Camelback High School. While at Camelback, he taught Marching Band, Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble, Steel Band, Choir, Piano, Music Technology, and Video Journalism. In his career he has taught at every level, from beginners to University students, and has been involved as an instructor in school music programs since 1984.
Mr. Hayward holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from San Diego State University and a Master of Music Degree in Conducting (with distinction) from Norther Arizona University. Mr. Hayward worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Northern Arizona University in their band program and worked with groups including the Lumberjack Marching Band and the nationally recognized NAU Wind Symphony. In the 1992-1993 academic year, he was considered for an interim full-time faculty position at NAU, as Associate Director of Bands.
Mr. Hayward is active as a composer, arranger, clinician, performer, private teacher, and adjudicator. He has also served as chairperson for the North-Central All-Region Honor Band and has served AMEA as Regional Governor. In 2005, he was honored with the George C. Wilson Leadership-Service Award by the Arizona Music Educators Association. He is a member of NAfME, AMEA, ABODA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi, and was included in the 1978 and 2005 editions of Who's Who in America. For 6 years he served for the AMEA board as the state chair for the music honor society Tri-M. Before the pandemic, he was the Orchestra Conductor for the Scottsdale Musical Theatre Company and lead the cast and orchestra members through nearly 20 productions.
At Goldwater Mr. Hayward is the music arranger for the Pride Regiment and is the primary instructor for the Front Ensemble.
